Showtime Cheer(SC), LLC Guidelines 2011-2012
Mission Statement:
It is our mission to provide age appropriate instruction to cheerleaders in a structured manner and to insure a rewarding, enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
Goals:
Our goal is for each child to improve technical skills, develop life-long exercise habits, create strong and lasting bonds for every member, develop interpersonal skills, become a role model for other children and maintain high social standards.
These responsibilities, rules and guidelines are established to encourage cheerleaders and parents to be responsible for themselves and their actions as well as be cooperative and courteous with their teammates and cheer moms/coaches. Cheerleading is a team sport. While this is a recreational level program, it is still a commitment that has been made by the cheerleaders and their parents. Please honor this commitment accordingly.
The goal of this organization shall be:
1. To teach and instruct youths the basic skills of cheerleading and pom-poms.
2. To be a feeder program to the High Schools in each area of this program.
3. To inspire youths to practice the ideals of teamwork and sportsmanship.
4. To develop physical fitness within a safe environment.
5. To accept adversity without complaint.
6. To respect authority.
7. To respect their teammates and opponents.
8. To develop self-confidence and a feeling of accomplishment.
Cheerleader and Parent Responsibilities
As a member of a squad the cheerleader will be expected to fulfill certain obligations and responsibilities. A cheerleader’s job is to improve crowd morale and boost team spirit as a squad. They are expected to entertain the crowd. If at any point a parent has a question or complaint please notify the director or cheer mom/coach.
Appearance and Uniform at Performance or Practice:
b. 2nd time for the same offense – The cheerleader will miss 5 -10 minutes of practice or the event at the cheer mom/coaches discretion (cheer mom/coach has the option to notify the parent of the disruptive behavior).
c. 3rd time for the same offense – The cheerleader will be made to sit out for the event and the cheer mom/coach will need to notify and talk with the parent/guardian about the conduct.
d. 4th time for the same offense –The cheer mom/coach will need to notify a co-chair of the behavior for documentation in case of removal.
e. 5th time for the same offense – The coach, co-chairs, and parent will meet to discuss removal of the cheerleader from the squad. If the removal is granted, the parent and cheerleader forfeits all fees associated with the organization.
2. Any problems that occur during the season should be discussed with the cheer mom/coach first. If a solution cannot be reached the coaches will assist in reaching a resolution.

They are expected to entertain the crowd. If at any point a parent has a question or complaint please notify the director or cheer mom/coach.
Appearance and Uniform at Performance or Practice:
- Until uniforms are selected Cheerleaders are encouraged to wear a t-shirt or tank top, shorts or athletic pants, socks and gym shoes to practice. Hair must be pulled back.
- Athletic shoes are required. FLIP FLOPS and SANDALS are not allowed.
- FOR SAFETY REASONS - JEWELRY is not permitted to be worn during practices, games, or performances. This includes earrings, bracelets, watches, rings and necklaces. If worn, the cheerleader will be instructed to remove such articles and will be required to keep up with them. Coaches and Cheer Staff will not be responsible for lost articles. The ONLY exception is a medical medallion, religious charm or new earring piercings. These must be worn taped to the skin with no charm or hoops.
- Chewing gum is not permitted while at practice or performances.

- If practice or events are cancelled, you will be notified by the cheer mom/coach.
- All Showtime Cheerleaders MUST display proper conduct before, during, and after all events. Each cheerleader is expected to act in a well-behaved manner and show good sportsmanship at all times. This includes showing cordial courtesy to all other cheer teams, spectators, and each other.
- If a cheerleader is disruptive or chooses not to participate, they may be removed or asked to sit by the attending cheer mom/coach or parent/guardian during a practice or game.
- Cheerleaders must remain with their squad and cheer mom/coach at all times during practice and events unless given permission by the cheer mom/coach.
- Cheerleaders WILL show respect to all cheer moms/coaches, volunteers, and parents at all times.
- Discipline problems will be handled most of the time by all cheer mom/ coaches and the parent/ guardian. One or more of the following may occur:

Stunts, Jumps, Gymnastics, and Pyramids:
- Partner stunts and squad pyramids are prohibited due to safety reasons and liability. Showtime Cheer will not be responsible for any accidents involved in stunts, jumps, gymnastics, or pyramids (see medical liability release).
- Dive rolls are prohibited.
- Flips greater than one rotation are prohibited.
- Twists greater than one rotation are prohibited.
- A forward ¾ flip to the seat or knees is prohibited.
- Cheerleaders may not tumble over or under other squad members.
- All jumps need to be landed on the feet.
- All cheerleaders and parents are strongly encouraged to participate in any Showtime Cheer fundraiser if any are made available. If you do not wish to participate, the parent/cheerleader will be responsible for the buyout fee. No other squad fundraisers may be added without written approval from the co-chairs. These will be to offset any fees for uniforms.
- All cheer mom/coaches and volunteers will need to fill out the volunteer form for a background check before being allowed to supervise a squad.
- Cheer moms/coaches are only allowed to call practice 2 times in the same work week (as defined as Monday – Sunday).
- Cheer moms/coaches will be notified by the co-chairs during important school related testing dates. During this time, cheerleaders will not be allowed to practice.
- Switching or changing of squad members is solely left to the discretion of the coaches. All circumstances will be taken into consideration by the coaches and a decision will be submitted in writing to all parties involved. If the decision is based on a discipline concern, please see discipline procedures for proper protocol.
- Cheerleading squads will be placed under the direction of a volunteer cheer mom/coach.
- All practices should be supervised by the cheer mom/coach and held in a location suitable for the activities of cheerleaders.
- Cheer moms/coaches should recognize a squad’s particular ability level and should limit the squad’s activities accordingly. “Ability Level” refers to the squad as a whole and individuals should not be pressed to perform activities unsafely perfected.
- All cheerleaders should receive proper training before attempting any form of cheerleading gymnastics and jumps.
- A structured stretching exercise and flexibility routine should proceed and follow practice sessions and any other events where the cheerleaders will be required to cheer/dance.
- A calendar will be issued to each cheer mom/coach by the co-chairs for that squad’s team schedule. It is then the cheer mom/coaches responsibility to provide in writing a schedule to the cheerleaders and their respected guardians.
- All Showtime Cheer rules will be interpreted and carried out by the Showtime Cheer mom/coaches, cheerleaders, and parent/guardians under the guidance of Showtime Cheer Director.
- Megaphones can be decorated at the cheer mom/coaches discretion. Other ideas pertaining to the need of additional cheer items MUST be submitted in writing and cleared through the co-chairs before any action is taken. If approved, the co-chairs will distribute notification of the optional additional cheer items to all other cheer moms/coaches. This includes but is not limited to: cheer buckets, bags, t-shirts, tattoos, hair color, additional bows or ribbons.
- Team signs may be made only if they contain positive logos, sayings, or pictures. (Ex: Let’s go Black and White! Way to go Showtime!, etc.)
- It is the cheer moms/coaches responsibility to clean up any trash made from their squad. This includes but is not limited to: signs, water bottles, pom-pom pieces, papers, snacks, etc.
- If there are any decisions that you feel uncomfortable making, please contact a co-chair for assistance to the problem.
